A wooden Scottish official desk seal dating to circa 1850, of cylindrical wood form with circular brass matrix, engraved with the coat of arms for Inverness and a circumscription within a lined border reading:
TRUSTEES OF THE HARBOUR OF INVERNESS
The port of Inverness is operated as Trust port under control by Inverness Harbour Trust which was constituted by an Act of Parliament in 1847, being the assumed date of this seal. The port's historic records extend as far back as 1249. The port traded with ports over the United Kingdom as well as Scandinavia, shipping many natural resources from the fertile Highlands. The seal is in excellent original condition.
