Late 18thC Brazillian Rosewood & Brass Continental Armorial Desk Seal
Seal Detail
An impressive proportioned late 18th century desk seal, the handle of turned Brazillian Rosewood with mushroom cap, the centre of which has a mother-of-pearl inlay disc, heavily carved with a decorative pattern, the fluted stem and decorated bands tapering to a tall brass collar and integral oval matrix, engraved with an armorial comprising shield, coronet above and crossed feathered branches at base, within a lined border.
The impressive nature of this seal makes it a stand-out piece, and, with its beautiful decorative handle, suggests a Spanish origin, although the armorial has yet to be identified. In super condition for its age.
