Interesting brass 19thC US Eastern Star Lodge Masonic Desk Seal

Seal Detail

A fascinating desk seal made in the 19th century and even if you are not a collector of masonic seals, this one has so much symbolism and interest.  Made of brass with a banded side profile and a blank reverse, with some wonderful patina and use marks that would indicate significant use.  The obverse is well engraved with a host of symbols in the centre, typically those used by the masons; set square, ladder, star and trowel etc.  Within a lined border is the inscription reading:

EASTERN STAR LODGE. No. 169. COLUMBIA. P.A. CHARTERED SEP. 6. 5819

The seal would therefore relate to the specific lodge and the dating system based on the masonic coding which would date the charter to September 6th 1819.
