Apple Agate and Gold Marriage Armorial Hand Seal
Seal Detail
A delicate treasure of faceted, rectangular tapering form, this little 19th century seal, probably of continental origin has a handle of apple-green coloured agate. A fresh, almost edible green, it's perfectly contrasted by the warm gold decorative collar and mount, featuring tall feathers or leaves on the mount and unfurling feathers on the collar. The matrix is engraved with two shields beneath a coronet, with two asymmetric lion supporters above a scrolled motto as yet unidentified.
There is a lean to the handle, indicating historic use and possibly over-pressuring the gold collar which does little to lessen the appeal of this charming hand seal.
