A good example of a 19th century French Justice of the Peace seal, the handle of slender baluster form, with rounded top and tapering stem to a simple brass band collar and oval brass matrix, well engraved with a central depiction of the fasces with inscription JUGE DE PAIX with an inscription within an outer lined border reading CANTON DU LUC.

Although Juge de Paix seal are not necessarily a rarity, this design is particularly attractive in its simplicity.  The Canton du Luc is an administrative division of the Var region, in south-eastern France.
