19th Century French Ebonised Wood and Silver Personal Wax Seal
Seal Detail
This attractive desk seal probably originates from France in the early 19th century, and has a nicely turned ebonised wood handle of inverted baluster form, tapering to a silver collar and integrated oval matrix. The rim marked with a poincon strike mark, the obverse well engraved with a personal cypher under a decorative posy ring, the matrix engraved with a dotted border.
This type of attractive seal was for personal correspondence between friends and family or at least those who would appreciate the initials within the cypher and the sentimental nature of the posy.
