A superb example of a late 17th century, large brass Notary desk matrix, without socket, with very attractive iconography and inscription reading:

SIGILLUM * COLLEGII * NOTARIORUM * AVENIONIS

A Notarial seal from Avignon depicting a figure believed to eb Moses, sitting next to an eagle, clutching a tablet to his left side with the left arm holding a pen.  The sun's rays indicating God's word; the burning bush the commission given to Moses and the eagle symbolic of the city of Avignon.
