An American Portland Brass Customs Matrix Seal

A superb and unusual brass matrix seal from America which relates to the collection of customs within the District of the Willamette River within the Port of Portland 

Seal Detail

A large circular brass matrix engraved with a central depiction of an eagle with spread-wings together with an array of stars above its head and inscription which reads :

COLLECTOR OF CUSTOMS

and also a circumscription within lined border reading:

DISTRICT OF WILLAMETTE PORT OF PORTLAND

- the reverse of the matrix has a spigot base which may have been an earlier handle fixing / machine fixing due to the incised ring around the point.
