An Early 18thC Boxwood & Brass Continental Desk Seal

Seal Detail

A boxwood and brass desk seal, dating to the early to mid 18th century, of Continental origin.  The handle of unusual flattened and pierced vertical oval form with straight-sided horizontal oval cushion, with an incised "X" position mark; the oval brass matrix well engraved with an angled shield bearing unidentified arms within elaborate plumy mantling.

A beautiful seal with lovely patina in great overall condition.  There is a historic age split vertically in the handle on both sides but the seal remains intact and strong.
