Struck with maker's mark TW in a rounded rectangle, English, circa 1815, the four branches of fob seal form, attached to a central cut-cornered rectangular ring pierced in the centre, the circular integral matrices engraved with a spaniel couchant, the head of Sophocles, the initials L.M.S. in gothic script and a lozenge coat of arms.

The arms are those of Sutton quartering Manners.  The seal was possibly made for Miss Louisa Bridget Manners-Sutton, daughter of George Manners-Sutton (1723-1783) and Diana Chaplin, who married Edward Lockwood-Perceval in 1790 and died on 5 February 1800.  It is more likely, however, that it was made for Lousia, third daughter of Charles Manners-Sutton (1755-1828), Archbishop of Canterbury, who died unmarried in 1856.
