2 X Steel Wax Seals - Marriage Armorial and NEC ASPERA TERRENT Motto
Seal Detail
This lot comes with two seals, both dating to the same period of the turn of the 20th century and both of very similar design, being of steel, with mounting spigots - one cylindrical, one squared - on the reverse, presumably for mounting in a machine. The rectangular matrices have cut corners and are engraved as follows:
Marriage Seal: Finely engraved twin armorials under a royal coronet within a lined border
Motto & Belt: Finely engraved central belt within which is engraved a motto reading NEC ASPERA TERRENT (Frightened by no difficulties) with stylised initials under a Royal coronet.
Neither seals have been researched as yet and it is possible that they are linked in some way because of the similarities of the coronets, for example, but I cannot say so for sure.
