An unusual and rare French Louis XV wood and brass desk seal relating to the clothmakers of Rouen, the capital city of Normandy in the North of France. The handle, of turned wood of mushroom top form tapering to a tall, banded brass collar and oval brass matrix, well engraved with a central shield displaying clothmaker's insignia with fleur de lys, under a royal coronet, with the date 1739, crossed floral branches at the base and an inscription reading:
