1621 Brass Society of Jesus Desk Wax Seal

Seal Detail

A fine large Continental brass desk seal, the reverse showing a fixing spike to a handle, now missing, the obverse oval matrix attractively engraved with a central depiction of Our Lady in full glory with hands in prayer, long hair let loose with a circumscription within a beaded border reading:

A seal for the community of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), the location of which is unsure but possibly in India.
