An English porcelain, gold and hardstone desk seal.

An English porcelain, gold and hardstone desk seal, made for the Duke of Richmond and Gordon.

A superb example of a porcelain handle dating to around the mid-18th century, the french handle is painted with rustic pastoral subjects and has a carnelian matrix. The seal was made for Charles, 5th Duke of Richmond (1791-1860), who fought at the battle of Waterloo and was made Aide de Camp to Queen Victoria.
