Large Superb Early 19thC Swiss Boxwood & Silver Armorial Desk Seal
Seal Detail
A boxwood and silver desk seal, the handle of turned boxwood of baluster end, tapering stem with fine banding, terminating to a silver circular matrix, the engraving depicting an armorial of a stylised lion standant, supporting/holding a shield with standing collared bear, with helm above under a crest of collared bear, on a floral ground with remains of inscription within a feathered border. The seal is purported to have been made for KARL BERNOLD, of Switzerland from the district of Walenstadt in the canton of St Gallen, Switzerland.
