An English, silver multi-matrix desk seal with seven matrices, each cut with a day of the week, the centre section well hallmarked including maker's mark, TL.  It is not fully-understood for what purpose this seal would have been used.  One suggestion has been for the marking of butter to display when it was made and therefore could be used safely.  Whilst we have found evidence of this type of use for seals, it is more usual for wooden stamps to be used, which would be easier to mark and less "messy".   The maker has not yet been identified and it is rare to find a silver seal of this period with such a full complement of marks.
