Seal Detail

A very attractive and elegantly proportioned desk seal, the handle formed of tapering cylindrical form with a rounded top, the shaft decorated with a coloured enamel, delicate, floral design tapering to a contrasting red purpurine ring above a gilt silver circular matrix, beautifully cut with a personal armorial comprising a shield with mantling under a royal coronet.  

[This beautiful work is typical of that of Petouchoff and Boitzoef, both of whom worked in the Faberge workshops as master enamellers and purpurine was invented by Petouchoff for Carl Faberge.]
