c1790 STEEL ARMORIAL DESK SEAL

Seal Detail

An attractive c1790 desk seal on a likely later handle and mount, the handle of simple slender baluster form with tapering stem to a simple brass collar band and stepped steel mount to an oval polished steel matrix, well engraved with an armorial depicting a castellated defence wall beyond which the sea, shared by a ship and rose, the caduceus crest above with a stylistic variation to the norm. 

A pretty seal with an interesting matrix worthy of further research to establish its original place of reference if not the owner themselves.
