18thC Polish Brass Sobotka Town Desk Seal
Seal Description
A bronze 18th century desk seal from Poland, the handle of tall cylindrical form with a slight taper to a circular matrix, with marker notch in the rim, well engraved with a central motif of a tall leather boot with initials WK and IS either side under a coronet, surrounded by highly ornate mantling and inscription within a lined and beaded border reading:
SOBOTKA CIVITAS
A seal from the town of Sobotka in the Wroclaw County in Poland, situated at the foothills of Mount Sleza, seemingly to suggest the town's official civil function but the boot and initials might also suggest the owner being in the boot-making trade. Further research would almost certainly clarify its true origins. In excellent condition.
