Seal Detail

A  fine fruitwood and silver armorial desk seal dating to the late 18th century, the handle of short mushroom form tapering to a silver collar and oval matrix, engraved with a central, as yet unidentified armorial of lozenge form - suggesting an unmarried woman - comprising three scallop-type devices, surrounded by floral garlands on either side and a motto at base within a scroll reading:

INTUS EST VIRTUS (Virtue is within)

A fine example in excellent condition.
