17thC Brass Personal Seal Beehive - IAQVES LE DOULX
Seal Detail
A fine 17th century brass personal fob seal, the handle separated and missing but the hinged still affixed on the reverse, the obverse well engraved with a central depiction of a beehive with bees in flight within a cartouche, and inscription within a lined border reading:
S. IAQVES. LE. DOULX
A personal seal for a Jaques Le Doulx, the use of the beehive is likely more pastoral than armorial; the beehive symbolising endeavour, diligence and hard work, attributes that Mr Le Doulx wanted to portray in his seal.
In excellent condition save for the missing hinged fin.
