Seal Detail

A fine example of a 19th century brass desk seal together with original oak case, the seal of vessica form, deep sided with the reverse engraved with the maker's name WYON, REGENT STT LONDON, the obverse well and deeply engraved with the central impaled arms representing his missionary see ( the Missionary Bishopric of Central Africa - a cross upon a dark, probably sable field, charged at its centre with a circular Christian monogram incorporating both Alpha and Omega), together with the oak-leaf coat representing his personal arms - argent, a chevron Azure between three oak leaves Vert, each charged with an acorn Or, under a mitre and outer circumscription reading:

+ SEAL OF CHARLES ALAN SMYTHIES D. D. BISHOP  OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN MISSION A. D. 1883 +

The seal is complete with its original felt lined oak case with brass hinges and lock together with its key.
