Fine Boxwood 18thC Bavarian Armorial Desk Seal - Schorno
Seal Detail
A fine example of a screw-thread capped desk seal, this example is a wood and brass desk seal from the 18th century, the turned wooden fruitwood handle of baluster form, tapering stem with decorated band, to a turned treen screw-cap with incised banding, covering the oval brass matrix, well engraved with full achievement of arms comprising shield, supporters, coronet on a plinth with Order suspended below.
The arms are those of the Schorno family from Switzerland and Germany.
A rare example of capped seal in such good condition with position notches top and bottom for alignment purposes.
