Early 19thC French Named Notary Desk Seal - Carol Derivaux

A large 19th century wood and brass named Notarial desk seal, the handle of turned beechwood with rounded top and tapering stem, to a brass collar and integral circular matrix, engraved well with a central motif of a pair of reversed busts, of each a male and female above an inscription PRUDENTER with an inscription on the outer edge reading:

CAROL. IOS. DERIVAUX NOT. CAESAR PUBL. ET IUR.

A seal belonging to a French Notary, Carol Derivaux, indicating his legal position and showing that he fairly represents the population of both males and females.

In excellent condition; it is interesting to note the rather dented top of the seal indicating a lot of use in its former life.......
