c1794 English Rosewood Makers' Mark Silver Armorial Desk Seal

Seal Detail

A fine George III silver and rosewood armorial desk seal, the rosewood handle of flat top form, tapering stem to a silver banded collar and oval mount, hallmarked for 1794 and a maker's mark SH (for Soloman Hougham) to an oval matrix, well and deeply engraved with arms comprising shield Argent three bendlets Vert (for Nun) impaling Argent three escallops (many families) with crest above of a sword and a branch in saltire, within a lined border.

A fine and very elegant English armorial desk seal which deserves further research to identify the arms. Presented here in excellent condition.
