





19thC French Wood Brass Desk Seal - Church of St Nicholas Fougeres
Seal Description
A French wood and brass desk seal dating to the early 19th century, the fruitwood handle of organ-stopper form, tapering stem to a simple brass collar and oval brass matrix, well engraved with a central motif of a standing bishop dressed in garb, with crozier in one hand and a flaming heart of Christ in the other and circumscription within a lined border reading:

An ecclesiastical seal for the chapel of St Nicolas in Fougeres, a commune and a sub-prefecture of the Ille-et-Vilaine department, located in Brittany, north western France. Incidentally, the chapel of St Nicolas was destroyed in 1865. However, the seal here is offered in excellent condition!
