Seal Detail

A 19th century French wood and brass town desk seal, the wood handle of organ-stopper form with tapering stem to a banded brass collar and oval brass matrix, engraved with a central shield comprising fasces and inscription REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE, with crossed laurel branches at base and inscription within a lined border reading:

MUNICIPALITE DE St MARTIN DE VILLENAVE

Presented in excellent condition.  The town of Villenave (Villnave D'Ornon) is situated in the Gironde Department of south-western France, and form part of the Bordeaux Metropole.
