Seal Detail
A rock crystal desk seal, probably English, circa 1936, of typical Russian form with oval section, the tapering faceted handle with fluted top and faceted cap, the integral oval matrix engraved with a coat of arms incorporating crest, helm, mantling, shield and motto, reading:
VULTUS IN HOSTEM (Face the enemy)
The arms are those of Codrington with Harley in pretence. The seal was probably made for John Alfred Codrington, born 1898, son of Sir Alfred Edward Codrington, who married in 1936, Primrose, daughter of Dr. Vaughan Harley of Walton hall, Bletchely, Bucks.
Presented in excellent condition with very few flea bites on the crisp edges. The natural rock crystal shows internal inclusions.
