Interesting 19thC French Wood & Brass Sentimental Desk Wax Seal

Seal Detail

A charming French 19th century desk seal, the ebonised handle tapering to a brass collar and integral oval matrix, engraved with a pastoral scene of a seated lady in period dress holding a cross with a shield leaning against her with the inscription C de AD and in the background, a large open book showing a skeleton and in the background, a classical male nude holding a harp.  

An interesting subject for sure, and the inscription likely to be her name among iconography to depict her as a lady.  In good condition and clearly been well used in the past as there appears to be wear to both the handle and matrix.
