French Revolutionary Early 19thC Wood & Brass Town Desk Seal

Seal Detail

A good original French wood and brass desk seal, dating to the early 19th century during the Revolutionary period, the handle of turned wood of inverted baluster form tapering to a  banded brass collar and oval brass matrix, engraved with the Revolutionary iconography including fasces with phrygian cap on top, surrounded each side by oak branches and plaque below reading: 

REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE 

and inscription reading

A seal for the town of Cestas, a commune in the Gironde department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France.

Presented in excellent original condition.
