Seal Detail
A fine example of a hardstone desk or pocket wax seal representing the Bishopric history of Magdalen College, Oxford. The integral handle of finely carved agate with a predominance of reds and browns but including highlights in grey and black, of flat top form and tapering rectangular stem with cantered corners to an integral rectangular matrix, finely engraved with an image of a Bishop's mitre with an inscription above reading:
COLL. MAGD. OXON
The chapel in Magdalen College, Oxford, founded in 1458 by William Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester.
