English Hardstone Armorial Desk Seal - PAREO NON SCRUTO

An impressive striated hardstone desk seal well engraved with a coat of arms and motto.

Seal Detail

A well proportioned desk seal made from beautifully striated agate hardstone, mainly black but with white and brown striations, of flat top form and tapering oval form fluted at the top above facets, the spreading oval matrix engraved with a coat of arms incorporating crest, scroll-edged shield and ribbon and motto.

The motto reads: PAREO NON SCRUTO

The seal is unidentified.  No colours are indicated on the shield and the only recorded bearers of these arms are the families of BURTON and BLANCKLEY - neither of whom use the crest.  The motto does not tie up with either and is recorded only for JENKINSON (who did not use the arms nor crest.)
