A charming French early 19th century ebonised wood and silver desk seal, the handle of typical organ-stopper form tapering to a silver banded collar and rectangular silver matrix with canted corners, the engraving well executed depicting a three-masted ship with partial sails set but with pennants flying in a stormy sea and an inscription reading

A nicely patinated desk seal, with a them that was popular at this time for exchanging messages and sentimental messages.  Some surface scratching to the matrix but produces a lovely impression.
