Seal Detail

A particularly elegant ladies pocket wax seal dating from the 19th century. The handle formed with heavily fluted mother of pearl with flat top tapering to a collar engraved with a border of acanthus leaves to an oval mount and matrix of yellow metal. The matrix is engraved with a lozenge shaped shield, under a ducal coronet and the base with cross palm fronds within a beaded border.

The lozenge shield indicating that the owner was a widow of a duke, the handle in very good condition but it should be noted that the matrix is loose in its fitting.
