19thC Ebonised Wood and Brass Polish Treasury Desk Seal
Seal Detail
It is clear from handling this rather impressive desk seal that it was very much a daily tool rather than a draw item. The turned handle of ebonised wood of inverted baluster form shows significant wear on the rims as well as a smoothness and patina to the rounded top which further indicates much use. The circular brass matrix has a pleasant patina also and depicts a very attractive lying crowned lion on a hatched ground with an inscription revealing the seals official role within the treasury in Poland. By way of further description, there is also a roughly engraved positioning cross on the rim.
