American Desk Seal - San Francisco Earthquake 1906

This particular desk seal is a rarity due to it commemorating the effects of the Great Fire that took hold of San Francisco in 1906.  It is made of rosewood and brass and will be important for collectors of San Francisco's history or those connected to the theatre industry.

Seal Detail

A well turned rosewood handle of baluster form with tapering banded stem leading to a banded brass collar and oval brass matrix, which is engraved with a depiction of a fire helmet together with a theatrical comic mask and sword.

Following the great earthquake of 1906 in San Francisco, its major consequence was a huge fire that raged for three days and destroyed nearly 500 blocks of the city centre.  This seal was engraved to commemorate the loss of the theatre industry at that time and is believed to have been commissioned by one of the theatres' owners at that time.  A fantastic opportunity to buy an important and period-made treasure that forms part of San Francisco's past.
