Seal Detail

A wood and brass masonic desk seal, English, mid 19th century, the handle of abbreviated thistle form with two bands at base, the flat top centred with brass and metal rings, gadrooned and turned brass collar, the circular matrix engraved with an inscription enclosing a hand with a heart on its palm between: U.M. and the numerals 3159.

Inscription reads:

PRINCE ALBERT LODGE. ASHBORNE

The official seal of the Masonic Lodge based in Ashborne, with its magnificent handle in a form that was popular at that time  and now highly regarded.  Presented in excellent condition.
