19thC Wood Steel "Read O'er This And Then To Breakfast" Desk Wax Seal

Seal Detail

An unusual and highly attractive rosewood and steel desk seal, the handle of bulbous, flat top form with incised banding on the tapering stem to a steel collar and rectangular matrix with canted corners, the engraving reading:

READ O'ER THIS AND THEN TO BREAKFAST

What a wonderful sentimental message!   Whatever the reason for stamping a letter with this seal, it must have been a popular thing to do to warrant having a seal made just for this message! The seal is in excellent condition although there is some wear to the rim of the bulbous handle where, presumably, it has been resting on one side only.
